Since its introduction in 1995, the SM-SH51 cleat has established itself as the reliable choice for millions of riders worldwide. With advances in pedal and shoe technologies and the changing needs of riders, SHIMANO took the opportunity to rethink the interface between pedal and cleat from the ground up. The result is the CL-MT001 cleats, which combine the proven reliability of SPD with modern versatility and ease of use.

Multiple entry
While the original SH51 cleats require a "toe-first" entry, the CL-MT001 allows riders to click into the pedal in multiple ways. This means that you can click in front first and then back as usual, or back first and then front, or simply step directly onto the pedal for a quick and reliable connection between pedal and cleat.

The extended entry range is beneficial for a wide range of riders.
